Safety relays are coils and contacts that are designed to be positively driven and assure a reliable opening and closing for safety applications. By using monitoring logic, as well as overvoltage and short-circuit protection, and by also incorporating redundant relays, Safety Relays can provide a high level of fail-safe operations. 
 
When applied correctly, safety relays will detect failures in output and input devices, as well as internal failures, allowing power to be removed from a load, even if a contact is welded, and prohibit a subsequent restart of the load until the failure is corrected.
